Younger By The Day.

The hallway in my home is getting longer,

The stairs are getting higher.

After walking just a few steps my legs want to give way,

I’m getting younger by the day.

I’m fed mashed up food on a teaspoon,

They have to wipe around my mouth with a napkin.

I half expect them to say, “Here comes the aero plane.”

I’m getting younger by the day.

They go wherever I go,

Keeping hold of me all the way

They say they have to protect my frail frame,

I’m getting younger by the day.

They take it in turns to bathe me,

Dry me and put talc on me.

Trying to ignore the smells of old age.

I’m getting younger by the day.

The kids think I have lost my hearing

They shout and talk down to me.

And I’m sure they think I don’t understand what they say,

Because I’m getting younger by the day.

The memories I once held dear are fading,

I am always tired and I’m slowly wasting away.

I know my time will soon be up,

Because I’m getting younger by the day.
